Strict Breather

Still no pain in my back. I decided to skip PT and core work again yesterday and didn’t really do anything all day.

Got me breathing much harder than I expected. Finished in 10:16.

Tuesday Triceps

I don’t feel any tightness at all in my back after doing the goblet squats yesterday! Did my floor PT exercises during a lunch break. Out in the garage at 4pm.

My plan was to do all of the handstand push-ups strict, but in the first set I knew that wouldn’t hold. I was able to do all 10 strict for the first two sets. Then I did 6 strict plus 1 strict in to 3 kip, and finally 5 strict plus 5 kip in the fourth. I lost the shoulder presses real quick getting 15-8-6-5 reps.

5:00 Rest and Repeat

When I got a few reps in to that first set of 21 burpees I knew this was going to be bad. Oh shit! My triceps were blown! I was having a hard time pushing myself up off the ground. My ski pace slowed significantly after the first 21 calories. First time through took me exactly 6:00. I started out the second time much slower on the machine, but was able to pick up the pace for the 9 cals and then push the burpees, to make up some ground, getting 6:02.

What I Needed

My hamstrings are still sore. Worst sleep of the week last night and the rest of the week was terrible to begin with. Originally I had a vacation day schedule with my sister’s family due to visit. With the pandemic that trip was cancelled though. I woke up this morning and decided I needed the day off.

I really concentrated on my back during the ski and limited my range of motion. Because of that I didn’t scale up from women’s calories. Our ceiling is much lower at the new location. I started on my knees, which also meant no jump and no momentum going into the first pull. Much harder. Probably made it close to a 15′ rope climb. I never missed a regular double under and did all of the chest-to-bars unbroken with a regular kip, not wearing any grips. Was pretty stoked about that. I did the handstand push-ups 7-5 each round and felt good. Great idea to get out the Zeus rope. LOL!! Definitely got my heart rate spiked so I scaled to 30 reps. I stopped on purpose during the first round doing 20-10. Then missed at 9 and 10 in the second round. The final two rounds were unbroken. Jumping up to a higher box for the step down (heel taps) was much harder on that left leg.

Draggin’ Ass

On Thursday I had an early flight at 6:40am Dubai time for about a 29 hour travel day. Got home just after 11pm Eastern, showered, and went to bed. My back felt a little odd after setting so much on the planes. I slept until almost 9, shoveled the driveway, and took a 2+ hour nap. Decided not to workout. Slept pretty good, but wasn’t up early enough to make it to class. So I made pancakes! Didn’t feel like it, but I was out in the garage at 2:40.

I’m Not Pat

Didn’t do shit yesterday other than watch the Mayhem Classic. I’m still feeling my back a little bit at points during the night. I may hold off on hitting the barbell all week. Got to the gym early before 10am open gym.

Gymnastics

Worked on handstand walking for 15 minutes. I still have a lot to work on but I was starting to consistently get out to 15 feet or more.

Pat Vellner did this in 5:37 earlier this week! I did not.

I went out way too hot in the first 10 reps and my heart rate never recovered. I was hoping for sub 10 minutes but when I got through 25 reps around 2:15 I knew it wasn’t in the cards and changed my goal to break 11. I was through 50 some time after 5:00 and was doing 10 reps about every 70 seconds, so I knew I’d have to turn things up a notch. I picked up the pace with 20 reps left, almost biffed it around 8 reps left, and made up a lot of ground on my pace to finish in 10:40. That was a nasty workout!

I started feeling my right calf in the middle of the workout and had to start jumping mostly off my left leg. Was limping almost immediately after the workout. That calf is not happy with me.

Second and third set felt better than the first. Matches my 2RM and only 10# shy of my 1RM.

I was doing about ~1,300-1,350 cal/hr on the ski erg. Was able to do the first three rounds of handstand push-ups 8-7 but was really grinding and only got 5-5-3 for 13 reps in the final round. I did 12-6, 6-6-6, and two rounds of 5-5-5-3 for the push-ups. Pretty nasty workout after so much pressing the weights. I probably should have done 15 calories for a male, but I knew the HSPU would be the challenge and appreciated the extra rest.
